Recording voice segments using a microphone

Use this procedure to record voice segments through a microphone or other audio input device if you have a built-in Audio Adapter. This input is uncompressed. However, Blueworx Voice Response will convert this to a compressed form, if required, when the segment is created in the database. Refer to Connecting audio equipment to the pSeries computer for more information about recording.

You can record audio data as a new voice segment, or add it to an existing segment:

• If you try to add audio data to an existing voice segment of a differing format, Blueworx Voice Response displays a message to notify you that the formats differ and cancels the operation. Refer to Step 11 for instructions about specifying the format for recording voice segments.
• If you add audio data to an existing voice segment of a differing compression, Blueworx Voice Response automatically converts the resulting segment to compressed format. If you want the segment to be uncompressed, you can specify this when you save the segment.

If you want to listen to your recording as you record, make sure that you have the appropriate devices connected to your pSeries computer before you begin recording. For example, as you record from a CD connected to the line-in input, you can simultaneously listen to the recording through headphones connected to the line-out output.
