Managing 3270 sessions

Use this procedure to change the status of a 3270 terminal session. This procedure lets you free a 3270 terminal session that is stalled. You can also use it to peek into individual sessions that are executing a script and to reconfigure sessions dynamically.

When you use this procedure to reconfigure a session, you can choose whether to make the new configuration permanent. If you reconfigure the session permanently, the new configuration will be in effect the next time you start Blueworx Voice Response. Otherwise, the configuration only stays in effect until you restart Blueworx Voice Response (or reconfigure the session again). When you restart the system, the session reverts to the original configuration.

The system refreshes information about 3270 terminal sessions once every 10 seconds. When you change the status of a session, the change may not be reflected immediately.

Notes:

  1. To disable a session, use the 3270 Session Manager window rather than the System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) or any other method. If you do not use the 3270 Session Manager window, the status of the session as displayed in the window will no longer be correct.
  2. If you disable Auto-Update, you should explicitly refresh the status before performing any action such as enabling or disabling a session, or modifying its configuration. If you don't refresh the status, some actions may be unsuccessful.
  1. Start: At the Welcome window, select Operations —> 3270 Session Manager
  2. Selecting a session : Click the session in which you're interested.

You can perform these actions on more than one session at a time by first clicking a group of sessions and then clicking the action from the Actions menu. This works only if all sessions in the group have the same status type. If they don't, the Actions menu items are disabled.

  3. Peeking into a session : To peek the session, click Actions —> Peek.

The system displays the 3270 Session Monitor window. The window shows the screen in use. Any field in use is highlighted.

  4. When you have finished, click Close.
  5. Stopping a stalled script : To stop a stalled script, click Actions —> Abort Script.

    The system stops the script.

  6. Quiescing a session : To quiesce the session, click Actions —> Quiesce.

The system waits until the current call is completed and disables the session.

  7. Disabling a session : To disable the session immediately, click Actions —> Disable.

    The system disables the session.

  8. Reconfiguring a session : If the session is not disabled, perform Step 6 or 7 to disable the session.
  9. Click Open.

The system displays the 3270 Session Update window.

  10. To assign the session to a different server, click Server Name, the name of the new server, and OK.
  11. To change the parameters for an initial or refresh script, click the script, type in the new parameters, and click OK.
  12. To make the new configuration permanent, click the button next to Save as new configuration?
  13. Click OK.
  14. Restarting a disabled session : To restart a session you disabled, click Actions —> Enable.
  15. When you have finished, click Close. Because the window refreshes information at 10-second intervals, your changes may not yet be reflected.
