Import procedure

Use this procedure to import voice segments from a file in the AIX file system into a selected voice directory.

  1. From the Welcome window, click on Applications —> Voice Segments to display the Voice Segments window.
  2. Define format attributes: To display the Format Control window for defining the format attributes to be applied to the audio data, click Options —> Format Control.

The system displays the Format Control window, with default format settings that are defined in the system parameters.

  3. Arrange windows: Move the windows displayed on your screen so that the Voice Segment, and Format Control windows are all fully visible.
  4. In the Voice Segments window, select the language and voice directory to contain the voice segments you want to import into.
  5. Create or open voice segment: To store the data in a new voice segment, click Segment —> New. Follow the instructions in Defining a voice segment to provide an ID and save the segment description.

Note: You can also click Options —> Import to automatically open a new Voice Segment window for imported data and proceed directly to Step 8.

  6. Open the new or existing segment that you want to import into.

The system displays the Voice Segment window for the selected segment.

  7. Import audio data into voice segment: Click Options —> Import.

The system displays the Import/Export File Selection window.

  8. In the Import/Export File Selection window:
    • Type the file name that identifies the file from which to import the audio data in the Selection field, or use the file search display to find the file and select the file name. File search display is described in the Blueworx Voice Response for AIX: Designing and Managing State Table Applications information.
    • Specify the Data Format, Sampling Rate, and Sample Width that exist for the data to be imported.

If you are importing into an existing voice segment, the default values displayed show the settings for the existing voice segment. To make sure that the data you record is compatible with the existing voice segment, do not alter the sampling rate and data format. Refer to Steps 10 and 12 for instructions about respecifying and converting the format of imported voice segments.

    • For data in PCM format:
      • Select the button next to Little Endian PCM if the data is in Little Endian format.
      • Select the button next to Signed PCM if the data format is signed PCM.
    • Click OK.

The system imports the audio data and the Voice Segment window displays the imported voice segment.

  9. Check imported voice segment : Examine the graphical representation of the voice segment in the Voice Segment window. If you specified a format that is incompatible with the data, or imported into an existing segment with a differing format, the graphical representation will not look like sound waves. Or, when you listen to the voice segment, it will not sound right.
  10. Change format: If you want to respecify the format for the imported audio data, use the Format Control window to modify the format settings, then click Display.
Note: The Format Control window defines only how Blueworx Voice Response interprets the audio data; the physical format of the data itself is unchanged. If you want to convert the actual format of the data, click Convert.

The voice segment representation changes accordingly.

  11. Editing voice segments: If you need to edit the segment, refer to Editing voice segments for instructions.
  12. Change format: If you changed the default format settings, you need to convert the voice segment to a valid Blueworx Voice Response format before saving:
    • In the Format Control window, select a data format of μ-law or A-law, a sampling rate of 8000, and sample width specification of 8.
    • Click Convert.

The voice segment is converted to the specified format.

  13. Save the voice segment: From the Voice Segment window, Save the voice segment. To change any information you specified when you defined the segment (or to copy the current segment to a new segment), click Save As to change the voice directory, language, segment ID, or compression information for the voice segment.

The system saves the segment in the selected voice directory.

  14. Close the Voice Segment window.
  15. More?: Repeat this procedure, starting with Step 5, for the next voice segment you need to import.
