Operating status

The operating status of the packs and channels determines whether Blueworx Voice Response can answer telephone calls from customers. Table 1 and Table 2 show the potential operating status of trunks and channels. Each pack has an initial operating status, which is the status it always has when you start up Blueworx Voice Response. You can set the initial operating status by using Pack Configuration or System Configuration on the Configuration menu. (See Setting the initial operating status of a pack for details.)

You can also change the operating status of trunks and channels at any time, using the System Monitor, available from the Operations menu. For example, when you have installed and tested a voice application, and you are ready to let it answer telephone calls from customers, put a channel In Service. Or, if you ever have to remove one of the digital trunk adapters, change the status of the associated trunk to Defined to prevent Blueworx Voice Response from trying to access the trunk and malfunctioning. Figure 1 shows which action in the System Monitor window results in each status.Table 1 shows the meaning of each pack operating status and indicates when you should put a pack into that status.

Defined

The initial trunk status. A Digital Trunk Adapter need not be physically (DTTA), or virtually (DTNA), present in the Power System.

Before you physically (DTTA) or virtually (DTNA), remove an adapter that is connected to a Power System, you must put it into Defined state, by using the Remove action in the System Monitor window.

Equipped

A status assigned and used only by the Blueworx Voice Response software.

 

Available

A Digital Trunk Adapter or Digital Trunk No Adapter is present but is not ready for processing signals.

When the adapter is physically (DTTA), or virtually (DTNA), present in the Power System but you don't want it to process signals, you must make it Available.

An adapter must be put into Available state before being put into Defined state so that the adapter can be physically (DTTA), or virtually (DTNA), removed.

Inservice

The digital trunk adapter is ready to process calls.

When the adapter has been configured and you want it to be able to process signals, you must enable it. An adapter must be Inservice before you can activate channels or resources.

Enabling

Diagnostics are being run and preconditions for the pack to be enabled have not yet been met.

The pack may be in this state for some time. You can cancel the Enable command by selecting Disable.

Quiescing

Blueworx Voice Response is in the process of quiescing the channels on the pack.

Before disabling a pack that is processing signals, you must quiesce it1.

  1. If you disable an Inservice trunk while calls are in progress, Blueworx Voice Response hangs up on the callers (and numerous errors may be reported) . Always quiesce an Inservice trunk with active channels before you disable it.

Out of Service

The initial channel status. The trunk may be ready, but the channel cannot be used to make or receive calls.

When you need to remove a channel from service for any reason, you must disable it, which puts it into Blocked status, and then put it Out of Service.

Blocked

The trunk may be ready, but the channel cannot be used to make or receive calls.

Idle

The channel is active and ready to process calls. There is currently no call being processed on the channel.

When you want a channel to be able to process calls, you must enable it, which puts it into Idle state.

Ringing

An incoming call is arriving or an outgoing call is being initiated on the channel.

These are the states that a channel passes through during call processing. You may not see them displayed in the Channels window, because the display is refreshed periodically.

Active

The channel is processing a call.

Alarm

The channel is active but there is a problem with it.
