Effective SUI design draws upon many disciplines. The key scientific disciplines are Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Linguistics and Communication Theory. The artistic disciplines of Auditory Design and Writing (especially the techniques of writing dialog) are also very important. Finally, for true craftsmanship in SUI design, there is no substitute for experience and codification of best practices (such as the information provided in this section).
