Channel associated signaling protocols, such as E&M wink start, or FXS loop start, carry the signaling information for the voice traffic on a channel on that channel itself or in a signaling channel permanently associated with it. This signaling information enables call control—call setup and clearing—but other functions, such as far-end hangup detection, are not necessarily provided by all channel associated signaling protocols.
