How faxes are stored in the FSA

Incoming faxes are held as separate AIX files in the FaxSample inbound directory. Database faxes are stored in a sub-directory of the inbound directory, called Faxsave.

The file faxpath, in the FaxSample custom server directory, contains the name of the FaxSample application's inbound fax directory. You will set this name to the name of the Brooktrout fax reception directory, as shown by the Brooktrout Fax Interface Tool, and thus provide the link between the FaxSample application and the BrooktroutFax custom server.

The FaxSample inbound directory contains the following files:
Inbound Faxes
Incoming faxes are stored with a file name generated by the BrooktroutFax custom server. The file name contains:
  • The Date on which the fax was received (format: YYYYMMDD)
  • The time at which the fax was received (format: hhmmss)
  • The channel on which the fax was received
  • A .tif extension.
Saved Faxes
Faxes are moved from the inbound directory to a separate directory if the caller requests that they be saved. Here, the caller selects a number to identify each fax. This number and a .tif extension are appended to the string FXD and the result is used as the file name.
