Writing a Fax Application

Brooktrout fax supports the sending of ASCII text files, standard TIFF files, a list of ASCII and TIFF files. (PCX files can be converted to TIFF files.)

If the user has specified an appropriate conversion utility in the PCX to TIFF configuration parameter (see Brooktrout Fax Interface Tool for details of how to do this), PCX files can also be handled. Filenames of such files must have the extension .pcx. If an attempt is made to send any other type of file, an error will be reported and the file will not be sent. The processing that occurs when you send a fax depends on the type of file being sent. See tif - tag image format, txt - ASCII and lst - ListFile for descriptions of each of the file types and its appropriate processing.
